Bubbles in the Air

Shine

An unlikely sight in the middle of the bustling city of Brugge: a young man mass-producing soap bubbles using but a long string with small loops on it, dipped in the soapy water. Some come out as perfect spheres, others look more like large shiny rainbow-blobs, and all the eyes in the square are glued to the spectacle of instant magic. Several kids give chase to each wave and compete to be the one who bursts the most. The bubbles that manage to escape the first attacks continue to rise towards the blindingly blue sky until they finally pop in the sun. The smell of washing-up liquid and a light mist of popping bubbles fills the air and conjures up memories of past beach holidays, in some cases long past childhood summers.

This post is in response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: Shine.
