When I was a little girl, we often went foraging for mushrooms in the nearby woods, especially after it rained. We packed some sandwiches and stayed out all day, collecting different varieties, which we then dried and ate. Those days, roaming the woods are among my happiest childhood memories: witnessing new life hatching, walking among the trees as sunlight flickers on the dancing leaves, hugging trees, eating wild blackberries off the bushes, and chasing bunnies built a strong sense of connection with nature I truly miss living in a city. They say that our sense of smell is the strongest trigger to bring back memories. And don’t I know it? To this day, the fragrance of a forest after rain, rich with the smell of wet undergrowth and wild mushrooms, makes me feel like I’m 10 again.
